The Couple
Some weddings feel like they were always meant to happen exactly where they did.
Libby and Evan's Finley Farms wedding was one of them. It was elegant without being
stuffy, full of quiet, tender moments, and set along the banks of the Finley River just south
of Springfield, Missouri.
From a riverside ceremony in The Chapel to a candlelit reception inside the historic Ozark
Mill, the whole day had a timeless, unhurried feel. It's the kind of wedding I love to
photograph: real emotion, beautiful light, and two people so clearly in love that my only job
was to stay out of the way and pay attention.
Why Finley Farms is one of my favorite Missouri wedding venues
Finley Farms sits on a 40-acre property in Ozark, Missouri, along the Finley River and
about halfway between Bass Pro Shops in Springfield and Big Cedar Lodge. At its heart is
The Ozark Mill, a grist mill originally built in 1833 that Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny
Morris bought and his family restored. It reopened in 2021.
For a wedding photographer, it's a dream. Across the river from the mill, The Chapel is an
open-air ceremony space built from reclaimed materials and tucked into the trees right on
the water. After the ceremony, couples and their guests can walk across the historic
Riverside Bridge to cocktail hour or the reception at The Mill. Inside, rooms like The
Hawkins Room and The Riverside Room look out over the river. For getting ready, The
Marley House sits right next to the mill.
Put together, you get history, nature and elegance in one place: warm wood, soft river light
and a little old-world romance around every corner.
Getting ready at the Marley House
The morning started slow and sweet at The Marley House. There was soft window light
as they had their first look in the library. Libby and Evan exchanged private vows and whispered kindness into each others ears. It was an elegant and timeless day.
Riverside Ceremony
The ceremony in The Chapel was everything a Finley Farms wedding should be. Guests
sat under the trees with the river moving just behind the altar. Her mom wrote a poem for them, and as she read it, there wasn't a dry eye in sight. Those are the moments I live for as a documentary wedding
photographer.
Portraits on the Riverside Bridge
After the ceremony, we walked the historic Riverside Bridge for portraits as the light
softened over the Finley River. I kept the posing simple: walk, talk, hold each other. That
gave us natural, earthy images with the mill and the water in the background. A few quiet
minutes alone, just the two of them, ended up being some of my favorite frames of the
day.
An elegant reception at The Ozark Mill
The reception at The Riverside Room was pure elegance. There
were earthy spring florals, candlelight on every table and a
farm-to-table dinner from the Finley Farms culinary team. Toasts had everyone laughing
and crying, and once the dance floor opened, it never emptied. They ended the night surrounded by the people they loved.
Tips For planning at Finley
1. Plan your timeline around the light. The trees around The Chapel and the river make
for soft, shaded light. Schedule bridge portraits for the hour before sunset if you can.
2. Use the walk. Crossing the Riverside Bridge from the ceremony to the reception is a
built-in moment for candid photos. Give yourselves a few minutes there before you join
your guests.
