WHAT EXACTLY DOES DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHY MEAN?
Documentary photography is a way to tell a story in front of you in a more candid, genuine, and raw way. The photos are typically less edited, and more true toned. But match the esthetic of the day and tell the REAL story.
THE DIFFERENCE IN STYLE
When comparing a documentary photography like me, to other genres like traditional, or editorial, documentary is more free flowing.
Traditional is mostly posed, curated, and seemingly perfect. More essential moments and staged situations, and less candid and in the moment. Editorial is extremely curated, high fashion and the days are typically very planned and laid out. Everything is meant to be captured in a very specific way. Documentary is more of a fly on the wall approach, letting the day unfold and capturing many moments and emotions. Don't get me wrong, I will pose you and guide you into the right positions, situations, and flattering angles. We will get those posed family photos, the traditional framers, and whatever your mom wants. But I won't be bossing you around all day, and making sure your day is perfect for my portfolio, because it's about YOU!

WHY I CHOSE TO BE A DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHER IN SPRINGFIELD/BRANSON AND PHOENIX.
I chose this style because I am a sucker for romantic love, friendship, and the symbolism of marriage and all it offers. I love telling stories and capturing those tiny tears, smiles, shocks of awe, and beautiful moments happening you can’t see. You won’t remember a lot of the day, but you will be able to see the day through these photos. I chose it because I believe in marriage, I do think it’s one of the most important days of your life, and I want you to look at your photos and bask in the love and joy anytime you want. My marriage is my most treasured thing I have, and I hope it is for you too.
Capturing couples is what I’m good at, I can read any room, match any personality, and I am passionate about people. Capturing real and raw stories is my “thing.”
WHAT IS MY EXPERIENCE?
I have been a wedding photographer for a long time. I started when I was 17 years old. I am now 31, married for 10 years, have kids, and I have experienced what marriage really is like and what it means. Growing up in Missouri and shooting weddings there, I was able to shoot weddings in all the seasons, weather situations, and venue types. I've done the barns, backyards, luxury glass buildings, churches, and wild elopements in nature. I've photographed it all and I know what to do when the day isn't running as you dreamed. I don't panic, I make it work. Honestly there are a ton of amazing photographers. The only thing that really sets us apart, is us. A recent review said it perfectly "Abigail is unlike any other photographer! She has this effortless and welcoming energy that immediately allows comfort and trust. We have had the pleasure of working together for a few weddings at a.casa, and every time she somehow manages to outdo herself! Depending on the couple she is shooting, she finds the perfect way to capture their wedding day and love story. I would definitely recommend Abby to anyone who is looking to just have fun on their wedding day and wants someone who can capture that energy perfectly!"
